BIDDEFORD — Jerod Lavallee scored the go-ahead goal with 5:40 remaining, and Greely beat Thornton Academy 7-5 in a matchup of defending boys’ hockey state champions Saturday at Biddeford Ice Arena.

After falling behind 4-2 in the second period, Thornton Academy (2-1) tied it on goals by Alex Fallon and Owen Lemoine, then regained the lead on Owen Elliott’s goal 4:54 into the third.

But Kyle Megathlin made it 5-5 just 25 seconds later, and after Lavallee put Greely (4-0) back in front, Megathlin added an empty-netter.

Alex Lambert and Steve Comar staked Thornton, the reigning Class A champion, to an early 2-0 lead.

Mitchel Donovan started a string of four Greely goals when he scored in the final minute of the first period. Ted Hart connected on a power play 3:06 into the second, Tommy Thompson scored less than 30 seconds later, and Reid Howland converted on a power play at 5:20 to put Greely, the defending Class B champion, ahead 4-2. 

PORTLAND/DEERING 4, CHEVERUS 1: Mike Fuller put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal with 59 seconds left and also had a pair of assists to lead the Bulldogs (2-2) past the Stags (4-1) in the City Cup at Portland Ice Arena.

Zach Luce chipped in with a goal and an assist and Caleb Fraser also scored for Portland/Deering. Jon Gatti made 25 saves.

Cheverus cut the deficit to 3-1 when James Kane scored a power-play goal in the second period. 

BIDDEFORD 4, CAPE ELIZABETH 2: The Tigers (2-1) scored three goals in the last four minutes to beat the Capers (1-3-1) at Biddeford Ice Arena.

Nate Crepeau had two goals and two assists, including a clinching empty-net goal. 

FALMOUTH 5, GORHAM 3: Kris Samaras scored a pair of goals for the Yachtsmen (3-2) as they raced out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a win over the Rams (3-3) at Family Ice Center.

Gorham cut the deficit to 4-3 behind two goals and an assist from Spence Cowand. Isac Nordstrom sealed the win with an empty-net goal with five seconds left.

SCARBOROUGH 13, KENNEBUNK 1: Trevor Murray had four goals and three assists as the Red Storm (4-1) cruised past the Rams (2-3) at Kennebunk.

Cam Brochu added two goals and a pair of assists, and Cam Loiselle also scored twice for Scarborough, which outshot Kennebunk 61-4. 

YORK 2, YARMOUTH 1: Derek Neal scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Zach Franklin with 9:21 remaining to lift the Wildcats (3-4) over the Clippers (0-3-2) at Dover, N.H.

Franklin broke a scoreless deadlock 2:29 into the third period. Yarmouth’s Max Watson tied it just over two minutes later.

Eric Lindbom finished with 22 saves for York. Yarmouth goalie Red DeSmith stopped 29 shots. 

BONNY EAGLE 12, WESTBROOK 2: Shayne Plummer and Josh Bagley each had a hand in eight goals for the Scots (4-0) as they defeated the Blue Blazes (1-3) at USM Arena.

Bagley scored four goals and assisted on four, while Plummer finished with three goals and five assists. Chet Komulainen notched a pair of goals.

Ryan Gilligan and Jason Webster scored for Westbrook.

BANGOR 5, BRUNSWICK 4: Jordan Tracy scored his second goal of the game with 29 seconds left to give the Rams (4-0) a win over the Dragons (2-2) at Watson Arena.

Brunswick twice erased two-goal deficits. Jacob Parent, Matt Brooks and Parker Wild each had a goal and an assist, and Dwayne Palmer also scored for Brunswick.

Bangor goalie Rye Powell made 20 saves. Blake Alexander had 35 saves for the Dragons.

WAYNFLETE 58, GREENVILLE 28: Serge Nyirikamba scored 15 points as the Flyers (6-0) downed the Lakers (3-1) at the Augusta Civic Center.

Jack Cutler chipped in 13 points for Waynflete.

FRIDAY’S GAME

YARMOUTH 46, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 41: David Murphy scored 13 points, and the Clippers (3-3) rallied past the Raiders (0-5) at Fryeburg.

Adam Wriggins added 10 points for Yarmouth, which outscored Fryeburg 12-5 in the fourth quarter.

Fryeburg was led by Jaquan Causer with 11 points.
