STANDISH — A West Buxton man is in custody following an early-morning standoff with Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies.

Police were called to a home at 760 Boundary Road in Standish at 12:20 a.m. for a report of a domestic conflict. The 36-year-old female victim involved was not seriously injured and was able to get away.

Sheriff Kevin Joyce called in the tactical team at 3 a.m. and members eventually fired tear gas into the home at 7:20 a.m.

Police arrested Ralph Gaddy Jr., 44 of Buxton without further incident after he fled the house. He was charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing and creating a police standoff. He will be held in Cumberland County Jail without bail pending a court appearance.

“Nobody was hurt during the standoff, which is always a good thing,” said Joyce. “He had made the comment if she called police, he was going to kill himself and if they got there before he killed himself, he might take on the police.”

Gaddy did not specifically threaten to shoot anyone but police did find several guns at the house, including some near the bed, Joyce said.

Boundary Road was reopened to traffic at 8 a.m.
