SANFORD – A Biddeford man has been arrested and charged with robbing the Walgreen’s Pharmacy at 868 Main St. in Sanford on Tuesday afternoon.

Sanford Police Chief Thomas Connolly Jr., in a posting on the department’s Facebook page, said that 27-year-old Brian Gallerani of Biddeford was apprehended about 10 minutes after the robbery took place – it was reported around 12:30 p.m.

Police allege that Gallerani walked into the pharmacy consultation area and lifted up his sweatshirt, a movement that revealed he had a handgun hidden under his garments.

He demanded prescription drugs from the clerk who handed over the drugs. Gallerani was last seen running down Acorn Street. At the intersection of Acorn Street and Riverside Avenue, he unsuccessfully attempt to car jack two vehicles.

A driver in the one of the cars struck Gallerani with his vehicle causing him to drop his firearm and some of the drugs.

Witnesses helped Sanford police locate Gallerani, who was hiding behind a house on Winter Street. Gallerani is being held at the York County Jail where he has been charged with three counts of armed robbery.
