GORHAM — Junior guard Nyheem Sanders drained a 3- pointer with 36 seconds left, and three players combined to make four of six free throws down the stretch as the Rhode Island College Anchormen defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 71-66 in a Little East Conference men’s basketball matchup at Hill Gym on Tuesday night.
With its fourth consecutive win, RIC improved to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference. USM dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the LEC.
USM senior guard Alex Kee of Bath hit a baseline jumper with 3:40 remaining to give the Huskies a 64-62 lead. But, the Anchormen closed the game on a 9-4 run to secure the win.
Kee had eight points and three steals.
USM visits UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
