TOPSHAM

Maine Coast Heritage Trust reported it completed more than 25 land conservation projects in 2012, most involving local conservation partners.

The Trust worked to ensure access to the shore for marine harvesters, protect working farmland and agricultural soils from development, conserve wildlife habitat and provide recreational opportunities, the group said in a news release.

Locally, the organization also offered dozens of recreational and educational opportunities, including partnerships with educators in Rockport, Vinalhaven, Phippsburg and Lubec.

Since 1970, the Topshambased group said it has helped more than 138,000 acres and 300 entire coastal islands to be permanently protected.
