AUGUSTA — Maine’s gambling control board is considering a proposal to allow a new variation of poker at one of the state’s casinos.

At its regular meeting Tuesday in Augusta, the board will consider Oxford Casino’s proposal to begin offering a card game known as Pai Gow, a variant of a Chinese gambling game played with dominoes.

The goal is for a player to assemble seven cards dealt into two separate poker hands – one with five cards, the other with two – in hopes of beating the dealer on both.

The gambling control board will see a demonstration of the game and review proposed rules for it.
