Members of Junior/Cadette Troop 1868, including, top to bottom, Karrtikah Foote-Gagnon, Elizabeth Cole and Marissa Bates, are working on their bronze award through a project called the Amazing Mitten Tree. They have set up trees in all Westbrook elementary schools and the middle school and are keeping those trees stocked with hats, mittens, gloves and scarves all winter with the help of local knitters and Pratt Abbott Cleaners.?Troop leader Veronica Bates said the idea grew from one of the girls noticing a classmate did not have a hat or mittens on a frigid day. She wanted to help without making the classmate feel like it was charity.
