DANBURY, Conn. — Senior guard Alex Kee of Bath scored 12 of his 16 points in overtime as the University of Southern Maine men’s basketball team slipped past Western Connecticut State University 90-77 on Saturday.
With its second consecutive win, Southern Maine improved to 12-7 overall and 7- 2 in the Little East Conference, earning the season sweep of the Colonials. Suffering its fourth consecutive loss, Western Connecticut drops to 4-14 overall and 2-7 in the LEC.
Despite leading by 12, 40-28 following a layup from Kee with just 3:41 remaining in the first half, Southern Maine found itself tied with Western Connecticut 40-40 at the break as the Colonials closed out the half on a 12-0 run.
In the second half, the Huskies trailed the Colonials by 11, 62-51, with 9:04 remaining following a pair of free throws from Mike Laporte. USM battled back to take a 71- 69 lead late in regulation, but Western Connecticut tied the game to force overtime.
In the overtime period, the Huskies outscored the Colonials 19-6.
USM visits Colby today at 7:30 p.m.
