PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Senior tri-captain Logan Russell of Bath posted a perfect 3- 0 record to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies at the 2013 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships Sunday afternoon at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.

For his efforts, Russell was named to the NEWA Duals All-Tournament Team.

The Huskies fell to Rhode Island College 41-12 in their opening match, but then took back-to-back wins over Norwich University 24-20 and Trinity College 32-15. With the 2-1 record on the day, Southern Maine’s dual meet record stands at 12-5.

Wrestling at 157-pounds, Russell had a strong day on the mats, earning a pair of wins by pinfall en route to his 3-0 record. With the trio of victories, Russell is 19-6 overall and 12-2 in dual meets.

Against RIC, Russell scored six of the Huskies’ 12 points, pinning Rhode Island College’s Ryan Rheaume in 2:15. Russell earned his 10th pin of the season against Norwich, downing Alex Kwmuntis in 1:34. In his final match of the day, Russell took a 6-3 decision over Trinity’s Evan Robinson.

Southern Maine returns to action on the road at Plymouth State University for a tri-meet along with Worcester Polytechnic Institute this upcoming Sunday (11 a.m.).
