BRUNSWICK — The Gelato Fiasco donated $1,003 for emergency heating assistance after the company’s Scooping for Community event Jan. 16.

The donation will support The Opportunity Alliance’s Keep ME Warm Fund for Cumberland County.

“As a part of the Greater Brunswick and Portland communities, we wanted to do our small part to support our neighbors in need this winter,” said Joshua Davis, cofounder of The Gelato Fiasco. “We appreciate the hundreds of customers who came out on a chilly, snowy day to join us in this effort.”

The fundraiser was part of a series of charity events being hosted by The Gelato Fiasco at its stores in Portland’s Old Port and downtown Brunswick throughout the winter.

During the daylong fundraisers, The Gelato Fiasco donates 100 percent of sales from event participants back to partnering organizations such as The Opportunity Alliance.

Since October 2012, these charity events have raised more than $4,000 for Cumberland County-based schools and nonprofit organizations, the company said in a news release.

The Gelato Fiasco is located at 425 Fore St. in Portland and 74 Maine St. in Brunswick.
