The high school wrestling regionals were held around the state with Morse, Brunswick, Mt. Ararat and Lisbon in action.

Eastern Maine A

At Skowhegan, the host Indians prevailed 221-136.50 over Mt. Blue, while Mt. Ararat was fourth (105). Brunswick’s Jared Jensen came away with 25 points for 11th.

Mt. Ararat boasted of regional champs in Damian Grubb (106) and Felipe Gunter (145), while Jensen improved to 39-0 with a 15-6 win over Mikal Federici of Skowhegan at 170.

Also for the Eagles, Jacob Kenney was third at 113, Pierce Knorr third at 285, Danny Ewing fourth at 152 and Brandon Jusseaume fourth at 182.

“They all wrestled very well … I was pleased,” said Mt. Ararat coach Erick Jensen. “I was really happy for Pierce because he came in as the sixth seed. From last year to this year is like night and day for him.

“I was also happy for Felipe winning in OT. That was exciting and that was also his first tournament win.”

Class B

In Western Class B at Wells, Fryeburg Academy held off Wells 176.50-153, followed by York (114.50), Mountain Valley (96.50), Gardiner (88) and Morse (73),

The Shipbuilders advanced six wrestlers to the state meet, led by 152-pound champion Michael Alvarez, who beat Jake Thurston of Fryeburg 5-3 in overtime.

Also for Morse, Kyle Bonti was second at 106, De’Andre Dinkins third at 138, Cody Maranius fourth at 126, Chad Bonti fourth at 145 and Austin Talgo fourth at 285.

Western C

Lisbon placed third with 72 points behind Dirigo (181) and Madison (106).

The Greyhounds had two regional champs as J.D. Martin pinned Misty Steward of Dirigo in 1:27 for the 113-pound title and Zach Stevens pinned Jarryd Fonger of Mt. View for the 132-pound championship.

Tyler Bard lost to Jordan Lord of George Stevens in the 138-pound championship bout.

Also for the Greyhounds, Ashley Patten took third at 120 and Ben Kates was third at 160.
