Today is Valentine’s Day, and if that’s news to you, it could be an interesting night with your significant other — and not in a good way.

If you’re worried about scrambling to make dinner reservations and calling a florist, there are options beyond the typical giving of flowers and dining out. (Though if you prefer traditional, click here for a list of Portland-area restaurants offering special V-Day dinners.)

For the more adventurous, here are some ideas for romancing your sweetie in more unconventional manners:

THE MIDTOWN MEN: When it comes to love songs, you can’t beat the early ’60s. Hear classics from The Four Seasons, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and more when The Midtown Men, a vocal group consisting of original cast members of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys,” perform.

7:30 p.m. Merrill Auditorium, Myrtle Street, Portland. $46 to $56. porttix.com

VICTORIA VIXEN’S VALENTINE’S BURLESQUE: Pour some hot scented wax on Valentine’s Day with a night of classic strip-tease featuring almost a dozen burlesque troupes, and get some ideas for a private after-party for two at home in the process.

“AN EVENING OF LOVE AND LUST”: Infuse some sexy swingin’ soul sounds into V-Day with a show by the Model Airplane Valentine Orchestra and special guests Jaw Gems.

8 p.m. The Big Easy, 55 Market St., Portland. $8; $14 per couple. Tickets available at Bull Moose Music. bigeasyportland.com

RED ALES NIGHT: Beer lovers, rejoice! Now you can celebrate V-Day while enjoying red ales at The Great Lost Bear. There will also be Valentine giveaways throughout the evening.

5 to 9 p.m. The Great Lost Bear, 540 Forest Ave., Portland. $2.99 per pint. 772-0300

VALENTINE’S DAY WINE AND CHOCOLATE PAIRINGS: What goes better with chocolate than wine, especially during a night of romance? Join sommelier Erica Archer as she leads a tasting and discussion with handmade desserts paired with wine in this event hosted by Wine Wise.

And if that gets you in the mood, make plans for Feb. 22, when Wine Wise hosts “Aphrodisiacs of Italy and Greece Dinner” at the Portland Harbor Hotel. (As if using wine as an aphrodisiac is something new.)

Aphrodisiacs of Italy and Greece: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22. Portland Harbor Hotel, 468 Fore St. $73.44; 21-plus. winewiseevents.com
