DOVER, N.H. — A New Hampshire woman accused of starving a boy in her care has been found guilty of first-degree assault.

WMUR-TV reports that a jury on Friday convicted Christina Thomas of New Durham for failing to provide proper nutrition to the developmentally disabled boy, now 9.

The 34-year-old Thomas said Thursday she did everything she could for him.

Police reported he weighed about 23 pounds when he was taken from Thomas’ home and placed into foster care shortly before he turned 7.

Thomas said she was concerned when the boy would eat fecal matter left behind by animals and would vomit or regurgitate food. When asked why she reportedly waited nearly two years to take him to the doctor, she said it wasn’t possible because she was traveling.
