Cheverus names Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

Three individuals and one team will be inducted into the Cheverus Athletic Hall of Fame March 24. The 1961 baseball team, known as the “Team of the Century,” which was the first to run the table in league competition, Richard L. Ashley, Class of 1955, a football, basketball and baseball standout, John P. Brennan, Class of 1970, a football, basketball and baseball star, and the late Richard L. Whitmore, Class of 1933, who earned 10 varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball, will all be honored. The induction ceremony is at 12 p.m. at the Portland Regency Hotel, 20 Milk St. Tickets are $30 and seating is limited. FMI, 774-6238 or hallisey@cheverus.org.

Portland seeks middle school lax coach

Portland Public Schools has an opening for a girls’ 7-8 grade lacrosse program for the upcoming season. Coaching experience is required. Playing experience is preferred. FMI, backbaylax.com.

PBC fighters lose at NE Golden Gloves

Scarborough’s Jason Quirk, a Portland Boxing Club middleweight dropped a 3-2 split decision at the New England Golden Gloves finals last weekend. Light welterweight Liz Leddy also made it to the finals before losing.
