PORTLAND — The Portland Flower Show is set to begin tonight at 6 p.m. with its traditional gala opening ceremony.

The Portland Company Complex at 58 Fore Street will host the flower show for the 16th consecutive year.

This year’s theme is “Timeless Gardens.” Cash prizes will be given tonight to an under-18 essay writer who best describes how to make a garden timeless.

Phineas Sprague, who owns the property, said the Best In Show garden will also be announced tonight.
Admission to the gala opening ceremony is $45 at the door. The cost will be $15 at the door for the rest of the week – $12 for ages 65 and older.

The flower show runs through Sunday. Hours will vary slightly each day. For more information or to buy tickets in advance, call 207-775-4403.
