GRAY — Fiddlehead School of Arts & Sciences, which was recently approved as a Maine charter school, will hold open houses on Saturday and Wednesday for prospective students and parents.

The non-profit school will follow the Reggio Emilia, child-centered, hands-on, mind-on learning approach.

The school expects to register 42 pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first- and second-grade students this fall. It will then add another grade level each year until the school has students from pre-K to fifth grade.

The school is open to students from throughout the state, but will only provide transportation to students from Auburn, Casco, Cumberland, Gray, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth, Minot, Poland, Pownal, Raymond and Windham. School officials note that transportation will not be provided in each of those towns, but there will be central transportation points, serving several towns each, designated for parents  to take their children to for bus rides to and from school.

The school is located at 25 Shaker Road in Gray.

The open houses are Saturday, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 657-2244
