PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Georgetown scored five runs in the botton of the sixth inning Thursday and went on to an 8-3 victory against the University of Maine in a nonconference college baseball game.

Michael Fransoso had a double and scored two runs for Maine (6-9) against the Hoyas (5-4).


BRIGHAM YOUNG SWEEPS MAINE: The Cougars (9-13) played two tight games against the Black Bears (1-13), winning game one 6-4 and game two 3-2 at Tampa, Fla.

BYU took a 5-2 lead into the fifth inning of the opener. Kristen Koslosky began the fifth with a double for Maine and Jessica Burk followed with a home run to cut it to 5-4. The Cougars tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth of the second game, Jean Stevens of Maine ripped a two-run homer to deep center field to make it 2-2. Marissa Bravo of Brigham Young answered by doubling in J.C. Clayton for the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.


UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 12, SOUTHERN MAINE 8: Tyler Thomas scored three consecutive goals to break a 3-3 tie in the first period and spark the Nor’easters (2-0) past the Huskies (0-3) at Biddeford.

Dan O’Gorman notched four goals and Mike Allan added a pair for UNE, which built an 8-3 halftime lead.

Kayle Hamilton scored three goals and Kyle Baker added two for USM.

PLYMOUTH STATE 17, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: The Panthers (1-0) rolled off eight unanswered goals to start the second quarter and cruised past the Monks (1-2) at Portland.

Jake Ricciardi and Andrew Sullivan scored two goals apiece for St. Joseph’s.


SOUTHERN MAINE 18, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 13: Freshman Sarah Pelligrinelli poured in five goals to propel the Huskies (2-0) past the Nor’easters (0-2) at Gorham.

Lauren Santo added four goals with two assists and Rosie Forster scored three for the Huskies, who opened a 10-5 lead early in the second half and led 18-10 with six minutes left.


(10) MICHIGAN STATE 58, (22) WISCONSIN 43: Keith Appling scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half to help Michigan State (23-7, 12-5 Big Ten) pull away to beat Wisconsin (20-10, 11-6) at East Lansing, Mich., and stay in the league race.

COLORADO 76, (19) OREGON 53: Xavier Johnson had a career-high 22 points, Spencer Dinwiddie added 17 and Colorado (20-9, 10-7, Pac-12) beat Oregon (23-7, 12-5) at Boulder, Colo., completing a season sweep and thwarting the Ducks’ bid to gain a share of the conference title.


(17) SOUTH CAROLINA 77, ALABAMA 35: Elem Ibiam scored 19 points, Ashley Bruner pulled down 14 rebounds and South Carolina (24-6) easily defeated Alabama (13-18) in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Duluth, Ga.

(20) GREEN BAY 63, LOYOLA (ILL.) 37: Megan Lukan scored 19 points, Adrian Ritchie had 17 and Green Bay (24-2, 14-0 Horizon) won its 20th straight game by defeating visiting Loyola of Chicago (14-14, 9-6).

(22) LOUISIANA STATE 65, AUBURN 62: Theresa Plaisance had 15 points and 14 rebounds and LSU (20-10) held on late to beat Auburn (16-14) in the Southeastern Conference tournament at Duluth, Ga., for its seventh straight win.
