The 416-foot-long container ship Reykjafoss is scheduled to arrive in Portland harbor at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The ship is owned by Eimskip, a steamship company from Iceland.

The Reykjafoss is the company’s first ship to arrive in Portland since the port has been designated as Eimskip’s logistical hub for North America.

Eimskip is moving its hub here from Norfolk, Va.

The Reykjafoss will deliver empty containers and truck chassis from Norfolk, Va. The ship will then depart for Iceland.

The company is offering direct container service between Portland and Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland and ports in northern Europe, including Russia, Norway, Poland, England and Germany.

Eimskip’s first ship carrying cargo from Europe is scheduled to arrive in Portland on March 24.
