McAuley High called a special assembly Thursday morning to honor Allie Clement, who had just been named Gatorade Maine Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.
Clement, a 5-foot-8 junior point guard, led the Lions (22-0) to their third straight Class A state title on March 2. McAuley beat Bangor 60-45 in the state final with Clement scoring 13 points.

Clement has been part of a state title in each of her three seasons with the Lions.
“It was really cool winning a third straight state championship,” said Clement.
“It’s an amazing feeling to have the Gold Ball in your hands. I feel blessed to have great coaches and teammates at McAuley.”
Clement averaged 18.1 points a game along with 4.6 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.5 assists. Clement shot 56 percent from inside the 3-point arc. She was named the most valuable player of the Western Maine Class A tournament. Clement joins Sarah Marshall and Ashley Cimino as previous Gatorade winners from McAuley.
“Allie was our steadiest player,” said Coach Bill Goodman.
“She’s a winner. In some games this year, she might have started slowly in finding her shot, but she helped the team by becoming a passer, rebounder and defender. Allie can do anything. Several college coaches who saw our games remarked how much they thought Allie had improved from the previous season,” said Goodman.
Clement usually only played three quarters, often to allow her to rest her right foot, which was inflamed because of excess fluid in the joints. Clement is currently on crutches, but a cortisone shot has helped and she will start rehabilitation. She’s planning on playing AAU basketball this summer.
Next season, McAuley will be favored to win a fourth straight state title. “I’m hoping we’re still going to be good,” she said. “Losing Molly Mack is a big loss. She was our rock. This summer, we’re going back to the basics to try to improve.”
Clement thus far has scholarship offers from Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and Marist College in Poughkeepsie. N.Y.
