A number of southern Maine communities have declared parking bans for Tuesday night as the last storm of the winter dumps several inches of snow on the city.

Brunswick has joined Scarborough, Portland and Westbrook in declaring parking bans Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Police reported several cars off the road though no significant injuries.

On River Road in Windham, one of the several cars that went off the road was a 2001 Audi that slid into a utility pole at 9:40 a.m., damaging the car, said Sgt. Peter Fulton. The driver, Ryan Johnson, 19, of Windham, was taken to the hospital for  treatment of back pain but had been walking after the incident and did not appear seriously injured, Fulton said.

That was one of several cars that went off the road on River Road, a scene that was repeated in communities across southern Maine and road crews worked to keep up with the steady snowfall.

The parking bans are intended to allow city crews to clear snow from the city streets.

The cities provide lots where residents can park for free during parking bans. A list of those lots in Portland can be found at the city’s website, www.portlandmaine.gov/parking/offstreet.asp.

In Westbrook, residents can go to www.westbrookmaine.com and search for the key word “parking ban.”

Vehicles must be moved from the city lots by 7 a.m.

In Brunswick, parking prohibed on all street and municipal lots from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Meanwhile, speeds on the Maine Turnpike and Interstate 295 have been lowered to 45 mph.
