A 39-year-old man was hospitalized with a stab wound after he was found unconscious in a four-unit apartment building at 25 Palmer St. in South Portland Friday night.
Police said the man, who was not identified, was found at the bottom of the common stairway at about 11:20 p.m. The stab wound was to the middle torso, police said.
The man was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said they talked to several witnesses and the person responsible for the stabbing, whom police did not identify. South Portland Sgt. Steve Webster said no criminal charges were filed.
“There are still a lot of unanswered questions,” Webster said.
Webster said the case will be forwarded to the Cumberland County District Attorney.
