JACKMAN — A Jackman resident was flown to a Bangor hospital late Sunday evening after a snowmobile accident on the Loop Road, according to Game Warden Andrew Smart.
Rayeann Milliken, who is in her early 20s, suffered a punctured thigh and lost a significant amount of blood after losing control of a 2004 Ski-Doo Renegade snowmobile around 6:30 p.m., Smart said.
Smart said Milliken was driving the snowmobile with her boyfriend, Tyler Varney, also in his early 20s, seated behind her, in a field near a residence they are renting. She tried to drive over a snowbank but lost control of the Ski-Doo, which then flipped over, ejecting Varney and landing on top of Milliken, puncturing her right thigh with the right handlebar.
Milliken’s condition was unknown late Sunday evening. Varney was uninjured, Smart said. “He could feel it getting away from her and he tried to grab the brake, but he couldn’t stop it in time,” Smart said.
The warden said inexperience probably caused the accident, as the pair had driven the snowmobile only a few times.
Jackman-Moose River Fire Department and first responders provided emergency medical assistance, Smart said. LifeFlight of Maine took Milliken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
