GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Adirondack Phantoms scored three goals in the final seven minutes of the second period to rally for a 4-2 win Sunday over the Portland Pirates at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Portland grabbed a 2-1 lead on goals by Jordan Martinook and Brendan Shinnimin early in the second period, but former University of Maine defenseman Jeff Dimmen tied the game with a power-play goal at 13:43.

Marcel Noebels put Adirondack ahead with 4:35 left in the period, and Eric Wellwood’s goal with 46 second remaining made it 4-2.

Portland turned up the pressure in the third period, outshooting the Phantoms 14-6, but rookie goalie Cal Heeter was spectacular, finishing with 39 saves.

Fellow rookie Mark Visentin, starting a third straight game for the first time in his professional career, made 14 saves for the Pirates.

The loss left Portland eight points behind Providence, the AHL’s Atlantic Division leader.

The Pirates fell behind quickly, as Tye McGinn scored just nine seconds into the game. It was the earliest goal ever allowed by the Pirates, breaking the record of 15 seconds against Syracuse on Oct. 8, 2000.

Portland pulled even just 25 seconds into the second period when Martinook scored his seventh goal of the season. Shinnimin followed with his 10th goal of the season on a breakaway at 4:18.
