FAIRFIELD — The word “bomb,” written in marker in a bathroom stall, caused a full evacuation of Kennebec Valley Community College Tuesday morning, but no bomb was found by about noon, according to police.
The school was evacuated by faculty and staff after a possible bomb threat was found Tuesday morning, said Joe Massey, Fairfield’s interim police chief.
“A student discovered in a downstairs bathroom in Carter Hall that the word ‘bomb’ had been written beside a bathroom stall and she alerted faculty,” Massey said.
Classes were canceled for the day, said John Delile, the college’s chief financial officer.
The first of two K-9 teams entered Carter Hall about 10 a.m. on the Western Avenue campus.
The evacuation began about 9:15 a.m., according to Jolene Harding-Davis, owner of Room to Grow Child Care, which is across the street from the college.
She noticed the police activity and said Fairfield police told her the daycare did not need to evacuate.
