BIDDEFORD — Police have identified the man shot to death in a parking lot in Biddeford early Tuesday morning.

Charles Raybine, 47, of 6 Rathier St., Biddeford, was found dead inside his car at about 12:45 a.m., according to a press release from state Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Parish Place Apartments at 41 Birch St., said McCausland, and the Maine State Police and the Biddeford Police Department are investigating the case as a homicide.

A car with Massachusetts license plates was examined and towed away from the scene around 11 a.m. Although police did not say whether that was the car where the man’s body was found, residents in the apartment complex said it was.

There was no word on suspects or arrests Tuesday afternoon.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta is performing an autopsy on Raybine, McCausland said.

The apartment complex was previously St. Joseph’s School, a Catholic school for Franco-American children, according to a plaque on the building. The school was originally built in 1886.
