AUBURNDALE, Fla. – John Schroeder’s one-out triple sparked a two-run eighth as Colby took an 8-6, extra-inning win in the late game to complete a baseball doubleheader sweep of Fontbonne University on Tuesday.

Tyler Starks then singled Schroeder home, and later scored on a Nathan Ellis single.

Alec Finigan had two doubles and a triple to pace the Mules (5-1) to a 16-1 win in the opener against the Griffins.

USM SWEEPS THOMAS: John Carey had three hits with two runs and an RBI to help USM to a 10-1 victory in the opener, and the Huskies (9-3) posted 22 hits in a 19-12 win over the Terriers (0-4) in the second game.

Logan Carman, Ryan Browner and Sean Murphy combined on a five-hitter in the opener.

Carey hit an RBI single and scored on Chris Bernard’s double in the second, and scored on Brett Barrett’s three-run double in the sixth.

Nick Grady had four hits with three runs and two RBI, and Troy Thibodeau added three hits, including two doubles and a homer, with two RBI in the nightcap.

Thibodeau was also the winning pitcher.

MAINE: The three-game America East college baseball series between Albany and Maine set for this weekend in Albany was moved to Orono because of better field conditions.

The Black Bears will host Albany in a Saturday doubleheader and a single game Sunday. The games originally scheduled for Mahaney Diamond in Orono on May 4-5 will be played instead at Albany.

SOFTBALL

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND SWEEPS UNE: Samantha Mulhern had five hits and eight RBI to lead the Golden Bears (6-6) to 7-2 and 7-3 wins over the Nor’easters (6-6) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Springfield, Mass.

Erin Grover had two hits and two RBI on the day for UNE. Amanda Vaudreuil had three hits and an RBI in the late game.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 13, SPRINGFIELD 8: Tyler Williams scored three goals, and Peter Reuter and Dan Hanley each had two as the Polar Bears (4-2) downed the Pride (1-6) at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.

COLBY 18, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Garth Franklin scored four goals, John Alex Rutan and Kris Molinaro each had three and the Mules (3-2) blanked the Monks (3-6) at Waterville.

Greg McKillop added two goals and two assists to reach 102 career points.

Peter Reiley, Tyler Will and Dylan Rothenberg combined on nine saves for the shutout.

BATES 10, KEENE STATE 8: Jack Strain and Nick Ford scored two goals apiece, and the Bobcats (5-3) outlasted the Owls (5-1) at Keene, N.H.

Bates got goals from Strain, Jack Allard and Ford in the first 1:06 of the third quarter to take an 8-4 lead.

Keene cut the lead to 9-8 with less than six minutes to play, but Strain sealed it with 1:45 left.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SUNY POTSDAM 16, USM 15: Emily Petit scored on a free position shot with 50 seconds left to lift the Bears (1-3) over the Huskies (4-2) at Clermont, Fla.

Southern Maine had rallied from a 15-13 deficit, getting a goal from Jenna Cyr with 3:10 left and another from Jacki Kelly with 1:31 remaining.

Kelly finished with four goals and Cyr had three for the Huskies.

ST. JOSEPH’S 17, UM-FAR-MINGTON 11: Mary Leasure scored five goals and Cassie Diplock had four to lead the Monks (5-3) past the Beavers (2-3) at Deering High.

Ayla Allen had six goals and two assists for UM-Farmington.
