BRUNSWICK — The Great State of Maine Air Show, which was scheduled to have been held in September, has been canceled.

Steve Levesque, Executive Director of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

Levesque attributed the cancellation of the popular show, which has been held at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station, to uncertainty associated with sequestration.

The Department of Defense has decided to end all aerial demonstrations, including flyovers, jump team demonstrations, and participation in civilian air shows and military open houses as of April 1.

If the air show had been held, it would have showcased the U.S. Navy Blue Angels aerial flying act along with several other military demonstration teams.
