FREEPORT — Two people were injured in a crash that ended a high-speed chase following a pharmacy robbery, officials said. The crash has also closed part of I-295.

Steve McCausland, the spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety said a man and woman were fleeing after robbing a Rite-Aid store in Yarmouth of prescription drugs. A chase ensued and ended in the crash in Freeport at the Desert Road exit, he said.

The car in which the pair fled was being chased by Yarmouth Police when it overturned while the driver tried to get off I-295 in Freeport.

The exit will remain closed for the rest of the evening, although the interstate is now open.
