The Androscoggin County Soil and Water Conservation District is conducting a stream crossing and dam inventory in the Little Androscoggin River watershed to identify potential barriers preventing fish from reaching upstream resting, feeding and spawning habitat.

Located within Auburn, Minot, Poland, Mechanic Falls, Oxford, Otisfield, Norway, South Paris, Hebron, West Paris, Greenwood and Woodstock, the waterway is used by alewives, Atlantic salmon and Eastern brook trout.

Information from the project will be used to determine which crossings or dams should be modified or replaced to improve access for fish and wildlife, accommodate larger stream flows associated with more extreme precipitation events, and reduce roadway maintenance costs.

A training session for volunteers will be at Oxford Town Office on May 10 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Contact the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District at 753-9400 ext. 400, or download a form at, or
