Jon Gallant has been hired as the new Massabesic High School varsity football coach.

Gallant, a 1994 graduate of Massabesic, which is in Waterboro, resigned as Deering High School’s football coach in early March. He had an 11-10 record in two seasons with the Rams. Previously he had been an assistant coach at Deering.

“This was the one job that would ever get me away (from Deering),” said Gallant. “Deering has been a special place for me, an important place in my life.

“But the pull of going back where I came from, that’s what interested me.”

Gallant replaces John Morin, who resigned in January after 16 years at the school. The Mustangs made the playoffs 11 of those 16 years.
