LEWISTON – Melissa DellaTorre outdueled Kelsey Freedman and Bowdoin College extended its softball winning streak to 10 games with a 1-0 victory over Bates on Friday.

Adriane Krul hit her second double of the game to lead off the sixth inning for Bowdoin (23-9, 6-4 NESCAC). She advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on Casey Correa’s sacrifice fly to right.

Bates (7-12, 1-6) managed just two hits, both in the third inning. DellaTorre walked two and struck out seven.

TRINITY 1, COLBY 0: The Bantams (9-16, 2-5 NESCAC) took advantage of an error by the Mules (8-12, 2-5) to score the only run at Waterville.

Colby pitcher Megan Michie gave up just two hits and struck out four.

Kerry McCarthy led off the fourth inning with a single, moved to second on an outfielder error, took third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a groundout.

SMCC SWEEPS UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE: Southern Maine Community College (17-19-1) avenged a sweep earlier in the week, claim 3-1 and 4-1 wins over the Owls at South Portland.

In Game 1, Michael Calabrese scored two of the Seawolves’ three runs. Daniel French was the winning pitcher.

Nate McKeown drove in the go-ahead runs in the second game with a two-run single in the sixth. Craig Mongiat earned the win.

ST. JOSEPH’S 8, DANIEL WEBSTER 0: Joe Coyne homered, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three to help the Monks (22-9) beat the Eagles (19-7) at Standish.

Mike Pratt and Alex Lorenc each had a home run and two RBI. Jimmy Kennedy pitched seven innings for the win, allowing four hits and fanning five.

TUFTS 9, COLBY 2: The Jumbos (19-7, 5-2 NESCAC) scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie against the Mules (7-14, 0-7) at Waterville.

Kevin Galvin paced Colby with three hits and one run. Jason Buco added a pair of hits and an RBI.

TRINITY 4, BATES 3: Bryan Ginsberg’s pinch-hit single in the seventh inning put the Bantams (15-13, 6-4 NESCAC) ahead for good against the Bobcats (11-12, 2-5) at Lewiston.

Nate Pajka went 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Sam Berry lofted his first home run for Bates.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

MAINE: The Black Bears added Washburn High’s Mitch Worcester and Canadian Erik Nissen to their recruiting class.

Worcester, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard, averaged 32.3 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three steals while leading the Beavers to a 19-2 record this past season, when he was a Mr. Basketball finalist. Worcester’s 2,297 career points are second most in state history.

Nissen, 6-9, 220-pound forward from Quispamsis, New Brunswick, averaged 20.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.1 blocks at Kennebecasis Valley High School, and shot 56 percent from the field.
