PORTLAND — Plans are already starting to take shape for the city of Portland’s annual July 4th celebration.

Sponsors of the “Stars and Stripes Spectacular” met Tuesday morning with city officials, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and the July 4th Portland Foundation, at a breakfast get together.

This year’s musical theme will be focused on President Abraham Lincoln and the history surrounding his presidency, according to Robert Moody, Conductor of the PSO.

“The fireworks will be even more brilliant than ever and everyone on the Eastern Promenade will have an incredible view,” Jon Jennings, founder of the July 4th Portland Foundation, said in a press release.

This year’s sponsors will include: the Portland Press Herald, Quirk Chevrolet, WEX, and the Maine Red Claws. The city of Portland cut funding for the fireworks display in 2010.

More than 50,000 people are expected to attend this year’s July 4th celebration on the Eastern Promenade. July 4th falls on a Thursday this year with the rain date set for Friday, July 5.
