GRAY – Numerous Maine high school baseball games are postponed or end early because of the spring weather. Usually the reason is rain, sometimes fog, sometimes even snow.

The Yarmouth at Gray-New Gloucester game ended after five innings Monday because of another reason.

The sun.

The game was called in the bottom of the sixth because neither the catcher nor plate umpire could see the ball with the sun in their eyes. The game reverted back to five innings and Yarmouth won, 6-3.

Nick Lainey had a two-run single for the Clippers (4-1) during a four-run first inning against the Patriots (1-5).

POLAND 7, LAKE REGION 1: Lukas Johnson gave up three hits, and had a solo homer and a double to lead Poland (3-3) over Lake Region (1-4) at Naples.

Johnson struck out six and allowed one earned run through five innings.

Kaleb Bridgham and Shawn Murphy drove in two runs each for the Knights.

FALMOUTH 12, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2: Addison Foltmer pitched five innings of no-hit ball and the Yachtsmen (3-0) went on to defeat the Raiders (2-3) in six innings at Falmouth.

Foltmer allowed two hits and had an RBI double.

Andrew Emple hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Thomas Fortier finished with three RBI, including a single in the sixth that ended the game.

WELLS 4, TRAIP ACADEMY 2: Connor Pease pitched a one-hitter to help the Warriors (2-3) defeat Traip Academy (2-2) at Wells. Pease struck out six, walked three and gave up one earned run.

The Warriors scored the go-ahead run on an error in the fifth inning. Gavin Snapp scored after reaching with a base hit. Dan Quint added run on a Joey Spinelli single.

WAYNFLETE 12, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 1: Nik Morrill had a pair of hits, including a two-run homer, and finished with five RBI to lead the Flyers (2-1) past the Lions (0-1) in five innings at Portland.

Nick Hagler added two hits and two RBI for the Flyers, and Tom Silk struck out eight over three hitless innings to earn the win.

OCEANSIDE 10, MEDOMAK VALLEY 7: Nick Mazurek drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run single during a three-run fourth inning for the Mariners (3-3), who scored five unanswered runs to rally past the Panthers (0-5) at Waldoboro.

YORK 5, FREEPORT 3: York (3-0) scored three runs in the third inning and went on to beat the Falkcons (1-4) at Freeport.

Derek Neal, Zach Leal and Adam Bailey rapped consecutive singles in the third and all scored on a pair of errors to give York a 4-1 lead.

Bailey struck out six and walked two.

The Falcons scored twice in the seventh but York made key defensive plays, including a throw to the plate by shortstop Anthony Sciaudone.

HALL-DALE 6, WISCASSET 2: Matt Plourde had two singles and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs (2-2) over Wiscasset (1-3) at Farmingdale.

LACROSSE

CHEVERUS 13, MASSABESIC 3: Tom Lawson had three goals and six assists to help Cheverus (4-1) pull away from Massabesic (2-4) at Portland.

Warren Murray, Nick Schleh and Jack Sutton scored three goals each, and James Biegel finished with nine saves for the Stags.

WESTBROOK 15, LAKE REGION 0: Nick Tremblay had seven goals and two assists to help Westbrook (2-2) shut out Lake Region (2-2) at Naples.

Noah Oliver, Sam Carroll and Tyler Jack scored two goals apiece for the Blue Blazes.

WELLS 11, WINDHAM 6: Spencer Sibley had four goals as the Warriors (3-1) downed the Eagles (3-1) at Windham.

Drew Shelley and Brandon Morton had two goals each for Wells, which outscored Windham 7-2 in the second half.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 12, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2: Jake Scammon scored four goals and Oliver Silverson added three as the Panthers (4-1) cruised past the Raiders (0-5) at Fryeburg.
