PORTLAND — The city’s police and recreation departments are warning residents that a possibly fraudulent website is offering registration services for some Portland recreation activities and classes.

Findsportsnow.com is believed to be posting city programs and offering registration through its site, soliciting personal information, including credit card numbers, and charging a $2 processing fee for each transaction. The website claims the registration information is passed along to the city, but no information is given to the city, which has no business relationship or agreements with the site.

Portland recreation officials said they had been notified by customers that they had registered through Findsportsnow.com.

Residents should visit http://www.portlandmaine.gov/rec/rec.asp for information on programs, registration and online payments. Anyone with questions or concerns about registration should contact 756-8275 or email vla@portlandmaine.gov.

Anyone who believes they have been victimized should call the Portland Police Department at 874-8575.
