PORTLAND — Several uniformed police officers along with the Portland Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit showed up in Monument Square around 6 p.m. Tuesday while several people dined outside at Shay’s Grill and Pub and David’s Restaurant.

But there was no cause for concern, according to Detective Sgt. Glenn McGary, who said the officers were there to investigate a burglary that took place in Monument Square. He declined to say where the burglary occurred.

McGary said police were trying to be respectful of the victim, who does not want to be identified. No injuries were reported.

The burglary investigation in Monument Square coincided with a separate case involving a man who told police that someone stole his backpack while he was getting off a Metro bus.
