MONMOUTH — Police say a motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night when his 2007 Harley-Davidson rolled on top of him.

Bruce Morgan, 48, of Chelsea, died in the crash that forced police to close Waugan Road for about three hours following the 9 p.m. accident.

Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin said today that the accident remains under investigation.

“Somehow the motorcyclist lost control and he started sliding and fell off the bike,” Mulherin said. “The bike rolled over him and pretty much killed him instantly.”

He said Morgan was traveling from Gardiner to Winthrop with another motorcyclist who was traveling ahead of him.

The other biker stopped after the crash and called for help.

Mulherin said Morgan was an experienced rider, and relatives said he owned several motorcycles.
Morgan was not wearing a helmet.

Mulherin said speed was not a factor and police are checking to see whether alcohol was involved.

It was the town’s first fatal since 2009, according to Police Department records.

Mulherin also confirmed that Morgan was involved in a crash when he swerved his truck to avoid a deer and broke a utility pole March 21 on Spring Road in Augusta. That report indicated Morgan lived in Augusta.
