GORHAM – Tucker White went 3 for 3 with four runs and two RBI as the top-ranked University of Southern Maine cruised to a 13-2 victory against sixth-seeded Western Connecticut State in the opening game of the Little East Conference baseball tournament Wednesday.

White hit a pair of singles and added his eighth home run of the season to pace a 17-hit offense for the Huskies (34-7), who face third-seeded Keene State at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the six-team, double-elimination tournament.

Keene State would be eliminated with a loss after falling 12-9 to UMass-Boston. In the other game Wednesday, Eastern Connecticut beat UMass-Dartmouth, 10-9.

BATES, ST. JOSEPH’S SPLIT: After losing the first game 4-1, St. Joseph’s (30-12) scored five runs in the 11th inning to beat the Bobcats (19-17) 5-0 at Lewiston.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 16, BRIDGEWATER STATE 1: Lindsay Picard scored three goals and had one assist for the Polar Bears (14-3), who scored the first 12 goals and cruised past the Bears (17-3) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tourney at Brunswick.

COLBY 19, LASELL 3: Alex Mintz had two goals and six assists to lead the Mules (13-4) over the Lasers (15-4) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tourney at Waterville

KEENE STATE 6, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 3: Molly Dussault hit a two-run single to break a 2-2 tie and lift the third-seeded Owls (22-16) past the sixth-ranked Nor’easters (22-18-1) in the opening round of the ECAC Division III New England championship at Keene, N.H.
