GORHAM — University of Southern Maine senior Orion Winkler tied for third place in the pole vault at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEIcAAA) Championships to highlight the Huskies’ efforts at the annual six-state meet.

Winkler tied with three other competitors by clearing 15-05 to earn All-New England honors for the second time in his career.

Senior Parker Chipman of Pownal ran a personal best time of 1:52.64 in the 800 meters to finish ninth and just missed All-New England honors (top eight).

Chipman also ran the anchor leg for the Huskies’ school-recordsetting4x400 relay. Chipman combined with Daniel Webb, Jeremy Collins and Kevin Desmond for a time of 3:18.08 to finish eighth. Chipman was also part of the previous record relay that posted a time of 3:18.74 in May 2010.

Southern Maine will close the 2013 regular season this Thursday and Friday by competing at the ECAC Division III Championships, being held at Springfield College.
