Former Gorham High basketball standout Mike Burke has been named Westbrook High boys’ varsity basketball coach.

Burke succeeds longtime coach Mark Karter, who left to become Gorham High’s head coach. Burke is a sixth-grade teacher at Westbrook Middle School. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Burke has been an assistant varsity coach and jayvee basketball coach at South Portland High for the last four years.

At Gorham, Burke scored 1,090 career points and played on the 1996 Class B state championship basketball team.

Burke lives in Old Orchard Beach with his wife Jackie and their newborn daughter, Victoria.
