TOPSHAM — The proposed $34.7 million budget for School Administrative District 75 goes to the first of two district-wide votes Thursday, May 23.

The fiscal 2014 budget, approved 8-2 by the SAD 75 Board of Directors on April 25, is a 4.4 percent increase over this year, which would result in a 4.1 percent tax hike, to $19.6 million, for the district’s four communities: Topsham, Harpswell, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham.

Topsham’s taxes would increase 5.2 percent, to $7.9 million; Harpswell’s, 3.6 percent, to $6.9 million; Bowdoin’s, 5.5 percent, to $2.3 million, and Bowdoinham’s, 0.9 percent, to $2.5 million.

The district budget meeting will be held at the Orion Performing Arts Center at Mt. Ararat Middle School, at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by a budget validation referendum at individual town polling places on June 11.
