Collier was killed, authorities say, by the Boston Marathon bombing suspects days after the April 15 explosions that killed three and injured more than 260.

The officer had many passions in life, according to his friends, from the outdoors to the New England Patriots to country music, but he also enjoyed a quality craft beer.

“I think Sean would be beside himself if he knew a beer was being named after him,” said Travis Dixon, one of Collier’s roommates.

Chris Vossmer, an Arlington native now living in Colorado Springs, came up with the idea while enjoying a beer at his favorite brewpub in Colorado.

Vossmer’s sister, Cheryl, is a sergeant in MIT’s Police Department. She quickly embraced the idea and approached the owners of the Cambridge Brewing Co.

Brewery owner Phil Bannatyne told The Boston Globe the first batch of limited edition Collier Stout should be ready to drink by mid-June.

The beer, a dry Irish stout, has the approval of Collier’s family, said Richard Sullivan, an MIT police sergeant.

The beer will cost $5.50, with $1 from each sale going to the Jimmy Fund, the cancer-fighting organization that was Collier’s favorite charity.

The MIT hobby shop is creating special wooden taps that feature a police baton and badge.

“I can’t wait for this to come out so Travis and I can raise a toast to him — one last cheer,” said Tim Croke, another of Collier’s roommates.
