SOUTH BERWICK – All it took was one inning for the Thornton Academy baseball team to hand Marshwood its first loss Thursday.

Riding a hot start, visiting Thornton (6-5) raced out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 win over the Hawks (10-1).

Matthew Rutherford hit an RBI single to finish off a four-run first inning and finished with three hits.

Jeff Gelinas gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters in a complete game for the Trojans.

Marshwood was led by Matt Brenner, who finished with two hits, including a double.

KENNEBUNK 6, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Benjamin Lary and Robbie Burns combined on a no-hitter for the Rams (3-8) in a win over the Red Riots (5-6) at South Portland.

Lary struck out six batters and walked two over six innings of work and Burns had one strikeout and one walk while closing out the win.

Nate Gilbert hit an RBI single and finished with three hits for Kennebunk, and Nick Emmons added an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.

WESTBROOK 4, SANFORD 2: Ryan Gilligan singled home two runs and scored on Kyle Heath’s base hit as Westbrook (9-2) scored four times in the fourth to beat the Spartans (4-6) in Sanford.

Ryan Camire doubled home a run and also scored during a two-run sixth for Sanford.

GORHAM 9, BONNY EAGLE 1: Matt LeClair pitched four innings of one-run ball, followed by Corey Nadeau and Eric Komulainen combining for five strikeouts over the final three inning as the Rams (8-4) held Bonny Eagle (3-7) to four hits in Gorham.

Damon Wallace and Alex Yankowsky each had RBI singles as Gorham opened a 3-0 first-inning lead.

Wallace finished with two hits, two RBI and scored three times.

POLAND 8, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 7: Corey Cunliffe raced home from second as Jake Simard’s hit dropped into right field in the sixth inning, giving Poland (6-6) a 7-6 lead over the Seagulls (4-8) in Old Orchard Beach. The Knights added a run in the top of the seventh when Lukas Johnson scored on Ethan Cailler’s ground out to the first baseman.

Caleb Martin had three singles for the Knights. Sean McDermott, Casey Williams, James Strohm and Austin Nadeau each had two hits for Old Orchard.

CHEVERUS 9, MASSABESIC 8: Jensen LaPoint hit an RBI double and Felix Del Vecchio added an RBI single as the Stags (6-5) scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and held off the Mustangs (2-9) at Waterboro.

Mitchell Powers added a two-run homer for the Stags and Powers, LaPoint, Del Vecchio and Liam Fitzpatrick all finished with two hits apiece.

Sean Adams and Elliot Desvergnes each homered and drove in a pair of runs for Massabesic.

FREEPORT 12, LAKE REGION 3: Cole Harrison hit a two-run single during a five-run fourth and added a three-run double in the fifth to lead the Falcons (6-6) past the Lakers (2-10) at Freeport.

Nick Cartmell hit a three-run homer in the third inning and Jack Davenport added a two-run blast in the fourth. Jordan Williams led off the sixth with a homer for Lake Region and finished with two hits.

YORK 5, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Daniel Bock struck out four and walked four while throwing a three-hitter as the Wildcats (10-2) blanked the Raiders (5-7) at Fryeburg.

Anthony Sciaudone, Zachary Leal and Adam Bailey each had two hits for York, which broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning.

BIDDEFORD 6, NOBLE 0: Nate Huot shut out the Knights (2-9) on four hits, striking out five and walking one during a Biddeford (3-8) win in North Berwick. The Tigers opened a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Corey Collard and Brady Fleurent singled to start the rally. Patrick Wilson’s fly ball was dropped to let in the first two runs. Corey Brown singled home Wilson before scoring the fourth run of the inning.

WINDHAM 4, DEERING 0: Calvin Field and Zach Conley knocked in one run each as the Eagles (10-1) defeated the Rams (1-10) at Portland.

Windham pitcher Nate Boyle and his counterpart Nicholas Payne finished with seven strikeouts each.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

WAYNFLETE 15, YORK 6: Zander Majercik scored six goals as the Flyers (4-4) cruised past the Wildcats (3-6) at York.

Jack Cutler and Timmy Bollinger added two goals apiece for Waynflete, which led 10-2 at halftime.

York was paced by Mitchell Lee, who finished with two goals and one assist.
