TUFTONBORO, N.H. — The New Hampshire Marine Patrol says a boat carrying seven people has been in an accident in the Lakes Region.

The patrol says a powerboat operated by 18-year-old Michael Peterson of Londonderry struck Chip Island near Tuftonboro while he was transporting passengers to Cow Island. The accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

One passenger was taken to Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, then later taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. That person’s condition and extent of injuries weren’t immediately known.

Five passengers were treated at the scene.

The patrol says the boat was damaged and was disabled. There was limited visibility at the time of the collision due to rain and fog.

The patrol says the cause of the collision is under investigation. Alcohol is not a factor.
