BANGOR — The University of Maine System’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved a budget Monday that will again freeze tuition and fees at the system’s seven universities.
Tuition and fees for 2013-14 will remain at the level set in 2011-12, ranging from $7,300 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle to $10,600 at the University of Maine in Orono for a full-time undergraduate student.

“Our trustees are committed to keeping higher education affordable in Maine,” Chancellor James Page said in a prepared statement. “With today’s decisions, undergraduate students from Maine who were freshmen in 2012 will be paying the same tuition two years later — in their junior year. This is, of course, contingent upon the Legislature maintaining flat funding for the system.”
The university system’s $528 million budget is about $385,000 less than this year’s. It projects a 0.3 percent increase in enrollment.
The budget calls for staffing cuts of 103 positions, plus the addition of 25 positions, for a net loss of 78 jobs.
The University of Southern Maine will experience the deepest cuts, with a net loss of 43 jobs.
