BOSTON — Massachusetts transportation officials are planning a series of meetings to inform drivers about plans to switch to an all-electronic tolling system on the Tobin Bridge.
Under the plan beginning early next year, drivers will no longer be able to stop at a toll booth and pay cash for their toll on the bridge.
Instead, tolls will be collected electronically through a driver’s E-ZPass transponder or by a new system which allows a camera to record a license plate number and send the registered owner of the car a bill through the mail.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is planning a series of public meetings beginning Thursday at Lynn City Hall at 6 p.m.
In 2012, there were 4.1 million cash transactions on the Tobin Bridge. That’s more than 11,000 each day.
