SCARBOROUGH – Gorham broke a tie with two runs in the sixth inning Tuesday and went on to hand Scarborough its first SMAA baseball loss of the season with a 3-1 victory.

Chris Hardy of the Rams (9-4) broke a 1-1 tie when he came around after Damon Wallace’s sixth-inning single was misplayed.

Spencer Lapierre made it 3-1 when he scored on Alex Yankowsky’s single later in the inning.

Scarborough (12-1) was held to five hits.


CHEVERUS 7, PORTLAND 6: Drew Ferrick hit a tying two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning, then singled home the tying run in the ninth, setting up a bases-loaded walk by Liam Fitzpatrick that lifted Cheverus (8-5) over the visiting Bulldogs (6-7) at Portland.

Mitchell Powers scored both tying runs for the Stags and finished with three hits. Fitzpatrick also had three hits.

Dan Kane hit a two-run single in the sixth, helping the Bulldogs score three times for a 5-4 lead. They went ahead again in the top of the ninth on Chip Webber’s RBI single.


THORNTON ACADEMY 7, NOBLE 1: Jeff Gelinas struck out 11 in a two-hitter and singled home two runs to spark a three-run first inning, leading the Golden Trojans (7-6) past the Knights (3-10) at Saco.

Gelinas walked three and allowed an unearned run.

Alex Fallon was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI for Thornton.


MASSABESIC 2, BONNY EAGLE 1: Brian Wardwell struck out six in a four-hitter as the Mustangs (3-10) edged the Scots (4-9) at Waterboro.

Casey Nava had two hits and scored both runs for Massabesic, coming home on a single by Elliot Desvergnes in the first inning and another by Sean Adams in the third.


POLAND 4, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 3: Lucas Johnson’s single to right drove in Kaleb Bridgham with the go-ahead run as Poland (7-6) scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to overtake the Patriots (3-10) at Gray.

Bill Bickford scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.


DEERING 6, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Dominic Esposito-Martin struck out seven over seven innings of three-hit baseball, and also drove home two runs to lead Deering (2-11) past the Red Riots (5-8) at South Portland.

Nick Carmichael hit a two-run double in the second, and Deering added two runs in the fifth and seventh.


BIDDEFORD 3, SANFORD 0: Corey Collard bested Brandon Wambolt during a pitchers’ duel in Biddeford, leading the Tigers (5-8) to a victory against Sanford (4-9).

Collard struck out eight while pitching a two-hitter, and also drove home two runs against Wambolt, who pitched a four-hitter.


BRUNSWICK 9, ERSKINE ACADEMY 5: Adam Casey had a three-run double and the Dragons (4-9) scored eight runs in the third inning to pull away from Erskine Academy (4-9) at Brunswick.


FALMOUTH 10, FREEPORT 5: Connor Aube singled home two runs and also scored for the Yachtsmen (11-1), who overcame a 3-0 deficit with a four-run third inning against Freeport (6-7) at Falmouth.

The Falcons tied it in the top of the fifth, but Falmouth countered with RBI singles by Seamus Powers and Andrew Emple to score six in the bottom of the inning.


MARSHWOOD 10, KENNEBUNK 2: Max McCoomb tripled home Matt Brenner, then scored on Jacob Lebel’s single as Marshwood (12-1) scored four times in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead against the Rams (3-10) in Kennebunk.

Lebel finished with three hits, two RBI and three runs.


FALMOUTH 17, YORK 2: Charlie Fay had six goals and an assist, and I.V. Stucker added two goals and 10 assists as the Yachtsmen (7-3) rolled past the Wildcats (3-7) at Falmouth.

Joe Dancoes added four goals and an assist for Falmouth.


NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 23, WAYNFLETE 11: T.J. Daigle had six goals and six assists, and Oliver Silverson added six goals and two assists to power the Panthers (7-3) over Waynflete (7-3) at Yarmouth.

Jeremy Sylvain added five goals for NYA. Zander Majercik had four goals, and Henry Cleaves added two goals and four assists for Waynflete.
