PORTLAND – Falmouth sophomore Olivia Leavitt, the No. 2 seed, knocked off defending champion Maisie Silverman of Brunswick 6-1, 6-1 to win the Maine Principals Association state singles tournament Wednesday afternoon.

Jordan Friedland, a senior at Lincoln Academy who lives in Damariscotta, repeated as boys singles champion with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over No. 2 Brendan McCarthy, a Falmouth junior.

Rain forced the semifinals and finals inside the Racket & Fitness Center in Portland from their original venue at Bates College in Lewiston.

In boys semifinal matches Wednesday morning, McCarthy beat No. 3 Patrick Ordway of Waynflete 6-2, 6-4 and Friedland beat No. 6 Matt Gilman of Cape Elizabeth 6-2, 6-2.

The girls semifinals featured three Falmouth teammates along with Silverman, who beat No. 5 freshman Julia Brogan of Falmouth 6-3, 6-1 while Leavitt defeated No. 6 Libby Voccola, a senior, 6-3, 6-2.
