DUBLIN, Ohio — Tiger Woods made the wrong kind of history Saturday in the Memorial.

Woods posted his highest nine-hole score as a professional when he had an 8-over 44 on the back nine at Muirfield Village.

Players started the third round on both tees because of rain delays.

Woods made one double bogey from an awkward lie in the bunker. He chopped out of the rough on his way to a double bogey on the par-5 15th. And he couldn’t navigate the slope in front of the 18th green when he made a triple bogey. He also made bogey on the 17th hole, and he didn’t make a single birdie.

His previous worst nine-hole score was a 43 on three occasions, most recently at Quail Hollow in 2010.
