SCARBOROUGH — A Springvale woman was in serious condition late Thursday night after her car left the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough at highway speed and hit a tree on the northbound side of the road earlier in the day.

State Trooper Richard Maguire said 46-year-old Kimberly Beaudoin was alone in her 2002 Ford Taurus when it careened down an embankment, sped up a steep hill and ran over a wire fence. The car, which was destroyed, came to a stop after striking a tree.

Beaudoin was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where a spokeswoman said she was in serious condition.

Maguire said Beaudoin does not appear to have put her brakes on after she left the highway.

Maguire said no one else was involved in the crash, which took place around 10:35 a.m. He said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
