BROOKLYN, Mich. – Points leader Regan Smith won the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, holding off Kyle Larson in the final 10 laps.

It was Smith’s second win of the year and 11th top-10 finish in 13 starts.

He took the lead with 13 laps remaining when Parker Kligerman had to pit, and although Larson closed the gap a bit toward the end, he wasn’t able to overtake Smith’s No. 7 Chevrolet.

The 125-lap, 250-mile race was run under threatening weather conditions, but drivers were able to finish with no delays. Paul Menard was third, followed by Kyle Busch and Trevor Bayne.

Smith’s final margin of victory was 0.331 seconds. He also won at Talladega in May.

INDYCAR: Sage Karam won his first career Indy Lights race with a victory in the Milwaukee Mile at West Allis, Wis.

Karam started from the pole but was passed by Zach Veach in Turn 1. Veach led the first 56 laps before Karam reclaimed the lead with a pass on the inside of Turns 1 and 2.

“I didn’t get the start I was looking for, kind of got jumped,” Karam said. “Zach went before the green, before the start came. I was kind of mad about that because usually when you qualify first, it’s your pace, you go, then the field goes.”

Karam pulled away after passing Veach and beat Carlos Munoz by 1.0808 seconds to the finish line.

Munoz was second in his first race since finishing second in last month’s Indianapolis 500.

Veach wound up third.

ROGER PENSKE said none of his employees were poached by other NASCAR teams despite what driver Brad Keselowski believes.

Penske said the defending Sprint Cup champion had “misinformation” when he accused Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing of luring away Penske employees in an effort to steal information.

Keselowski’s comments led to a stern rebuke from Rick Hendrick and Joe Gibbs, as both team owners blasted the driver for spreading false information.
